Update: Celebrate Recovery (CR)

What a beautiful night. This night was full of redemption, recovery and God’s healing hand. What a treat to have Kathy, who came from Oregon. She shared her amazing testimony about God’s faithfulness, strength, and hope. Members of Broken Chains showed up to support her, Celebrate Recovery, and Cityview Community Church. Some members of Broken Chains even rode from Kern and Ventura Counties! We also had women join us here locally. This night was filled positive energy, and it was an answer to prayers. Thank God that he is using Celebrate Recovery and Cityview Community Church to heal- hurts, habits, and hang-ups, especially in Lompoc. Our large group starts at 6:00 on Saturdays. Come and experience!

Meet the Coaches

The Celebrate Recovery group continues to meet at Cityview Community Church. These determined leaders are preparing to launch the Celebrate Recovery group on 11 September. In preparing for this launch, these people are working the Step Study, which is vital aspect of this ministry. We are blessed to have a full roster of coaches. Our female coaches are Sonia (left) and Claudia (right). Our male coaches are Michael (left) and Raymond (right). This team looks forward to serving the city of Lompoc, by serving our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Meeting the DNA Requirements for Celebrate Recovery

Cityview Community Church continues to make progress in her effort to provide necessary ministry to the wonderful city of Lompoc.  Last week, Cityview started a Celebrate Recovery group that fully meets the “DNA” requirements.  This week we continued our ministry by conducting Step-Study groups.  The Step-Study groups meet on Friday nights from 8:00 – 9:30.  We expect to launch Celebrate Recovery large group on September 11th.  With this rapid approaching date, the close date is September 10th.  Celebrate Recovery is the place for you to process your hurts, habits, or hang-ups, with both God and the believing community.

Church Revitalization

Cityview Community Church realizes the centrality of the gospel, especially as she engages in her God-given mission of revitalization.  For the past three months, selected members of the church have gathered for a monthly book study- An Ember to a Flame: How God can Revitalize Your Church.  This month we talked about the two strategies – gospel-driven and personal gospel formation.  Our conversation lasted for over 100 minutes.  Everyone around the table freely participated.  After closing in prayer, people expressed their feelings of hope.  We left encouraged knowing that God is doing a good work in the City of Lompoc.  Our next study will be August 24, where dinner is provided.

The Church: The Hands and Feet of Christ

Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.” Deuteronomy 28:16

The church is much more than a building. The church is best defined as those people who “come in” to be filled up with a better understanding of God’s grace  and “go out” with a fresh indwelling of God’s love, readying them to pour that love out when they return to their homes, friends, and workplace.  Making Jesus visible in this way is when the church becomes the hands and feet of Christ.

Our Purpose

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20

We were created to glorify God as a community centered around Jesus. We believe that worship is not something to check off a to-do list, but it is vital toward becoming a more fully devoted follower of Jesus. In worship we hear God’s Word through Scripture and preaching, celebrate Baptism and Communion, sing praise songs & hymns, offer prayers, and respond to God’s teaching by dedicating ourselves to being a light for Him wherever we go.

Our Beginnings

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14

CITYVIEW COMMUNITY CHURCH

Cityview Community Church is a new name but has its roots deeply embedded in history.  The First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc incorporated the same year as the city, 1888.  In 1964 the original church building, 205 West Chestnut Avenue, was sold, and the congregation moved to a new campus at 1600 Berkeley Drive.  While still remaining Presbyterian, the original name was changed to Cityview Community Church in 2017 to emphasize the church’s mission to serve the city (and beyond) and to reflect the church’s location on the valley’s southern hillside overlooking the city we serve.
